After the iPhone has been successfully unlocked by the community, the Indian black market is suddenly flooded with iPhones. I think the black market merchants were just waiting for the opportunity. What is disturbing is that these phones are sold at an astronomical price which may give a heart attack to even his Steveness.
The front page of rediff Shopping (a great source of illegally imported electronic goods) shows an iPhone for INR 59,999 which, according to todays' conversion rate is a whopping US $1450. Only a FOOL (a fool in capital letters) will offer to buy the iPhone at this price.

Two three weeks back when I was traveling back from Bangalore, I noticed one guy having an iPhone. He said he got it in gray market and paid 80k for it. I remembered that was the price I paid for my laptop. No unlocks were available at that time and so what he purchased was literally iPod Touch (which was not introduced at that time)

Probably he is one of the capital letter guys I am talking about. All one has to do to get an iPhone is to bring one back when you are returning from US, or ask anyone coming from there. Just INR 16K. The 80k is for the filthy rich.
In fact, the rediff page shows the iphone price as 80k with a 'generous' discount of 20k, which makes it 60k.

He might have purchased it without the discount
If he had put a little more cash, he can catch a flight to US purchase it and come back !
